520 |a "Feminist film theory is the theoretical exploration and investigation of the position of the woman within film culture. In the general atmosphere of the women's movement of the late 1960s-early 1970s, the presence of a feminist sensibility exuded into the academia with the progression of film studies as a proper discipline of study. Feminist film theory concerned itself primarily with analyzing and interrogating the image and place of women in film, exposing their discriminated position as well as the myths that circulated through the pervasive images on the big screen, and progressively started interrogating women's subjectivity, desire, and gaze as well as their multifaceted contribution to film culture as directors, editors, designers, producers, and so on. It also progressively became more inclusive and attentive to the intersectionality of sex, race, and class. This entry is organized in a chronological and subject matter order by giving a trajectory of the research/interrogation questions that have invariably interested feminist film theory since the 1970s up until now"--
