Zusammenfassung:
  • The book accompanying the exhibition of the same name at the Fondazione Braglia in Lugano brings together 70 outstanding works from both collections with a focus on German art from the beginning of the 20th century. The idea to unite both collections in one exhibition emerged from close collaboration with Michael Beck and is an expression of the friendly relations with and between the collector couples Gabriele and Anna Braglia and Friedrich and Renate Johenning. With more than sixty paintings and works on paper by representatives of the artist group Die Brücke (Emil Nolde, Erich Heckel, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Otto Mueller, and Hermann Max Pechstein), the group Der Blaue Reiter (Heinrich Campendonk, Alexei von Jawlensky, Wassily Kandinsky, August Macke, Franz Marc, Gabriele Münter, and Marianne von Werefkin) and the Bauhaus (Lyonel Feininger, Paul Klee) the exhibition gives an impressively comprehensive overview of the developments in modern German art. An interview with Gabriel Braglia and Friedrich Johenning, conducted for the exhibition, provides a fascinating insight into each collections' >>passions<< and at the same time draws a sensitive portrait of both collectors and their wives.
