Le jeune Armand Roulin est chargé par son père, facteur à Arles et ami du peintre, de remettre la dernière lettre de Vincent à son frère Theo, qui vit à Paris. Une fois là-bas, Armand apprend que ce dernier est décédé lui aussi. Il va alors se rendre à Auvers-sur-Oise, où Van Gogh a passé ses derniers mois, à la recherche de quelqu'un à qui remettre cette lettre. Débute une véritable enquête. Armand va s'entretenir avec de nombreuses personnes ayant eu affaire au peintre, et réaliser que les circonstances de sa mort sont entourées d'un certain flou. La thèse communément admise du suicide est alors mise en doute : et si Vincent avait été victime d'un coup de pistolet accidentel ? (4e de couverture) | |
